Day 2 - Vineyards, Freycient National Park, Coles Bay and Bicheno
Vineyards: 15-18km north of Swansea on the Tasman Highway is Spring
Vale, further on is Craigie Knowe Freycinet and Coombend, Quality vineyards
offering cellar door sales of some of Tasmania's finest wines.
Freycinet National Park: (55 minute drive from Swansea) Twenty
five minutes north of Swansea turn off to Coles Bay and the Freycient
National Park with its panoramic hazards, a group of granite mountains
watching over this scenic area. This is also an area of fine beaches, rocky
cliffs and peaceful walks to secluded coves. The walk into magnificent
Wineglass Bay from the car park takes half an hour to the lookout or 1 hour
to the bay.
Moulting Lagoon: on the road into Coles Bay is a wild life
sanctuary where great numbers of black swan and wild duck can be seen.
Friendly Beaches: Still on the Coles Bay Rd look for the turnoff
to Friendly Beaches, wide expanses of white sand dunes and ocean beach.
Bicheno: (35 minutes north from Swansea) See the Gulch, Blowhole,
and enjoy the beaches also the Sea Life Centre and the East Coast Bird Life
& Animal Park. Explore the Douglas Apsley National Park and take time to
experience the Apsley Gorge.
Mayfield Beach. Three Arch Bridge is an historic convict built bridge.
