    The picturesqe and stunningly beautiful and idyllic historic seaside town of Swansea is nestled on the NW corner of Great Oyster Bay., midway along the Great Eastern Drive.

    Typical of the East Coast region, Swansea has dazzling clear blue waters and white sands combined with breathtaking views across the bay to the pink Hazards Mountains of Freycinet National Park

    Swansea is the ideal location on the east coast, approximately 110mins from either Hobart of Launceston (via Campbell Town) or 4 1/2hrs via Scottsdale/St Helens.

    From Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania it is approximately 2 1/2hrs.

    Swansea is a great town to base yourself in to explore the east coast and in particular the Freycinet Region as it is centrally located to all.

    It also was the first rural municipality to be established after Sydney and Hobart in 1821. Many of the original historic buildings remain and are still in use today.

    In a sheltered position towards the north of the expansive Great Oyster bay Swansea has a plethoria of amazing beaches, so many points for boaters to access for recreation activities, surf breaks nearby as well as being on the doorstep to the world renowned Freycinet national Park.

    Seeing the sunsets on the amazing pink granite Hazards mountains is a" must see" and one to not miss and  photograph. This is best viewed from Swansea.

    Jubilee Beach is the main swimming beach in Swansea. It is a safe swimming beach for all ages as well as where the Swansea Jetty is situated as well as the boat launching facilities.

    This facility allows boats of all trailerable sizes to be launched into Great Oyster Bay. Large 7M+  vessels may need a marginally higher tide to launch and retrieve..

    The jetty or Pier also allows for fishing with a wide range of fish often caught from flat head, trevalley, bream, cod, salmon, squid etc to name but a a few varieties that inhabit and move around the bay.

    Fishing rods are available from Reception at Swansea Cottages & Motel Suites and all tackle requirements available from Morris' Store in the main street adjacent Jubilee Beach

    Morris' Store Circa 1838 is an icon in itself and a must visit when visiting Swansea.

    Servicing the needs of both the local community and visitors since 1838, this business retains the character of the past combined with the facilities of the modern generation.

    Although not a museum, there is free entry to to their visitors rooms which displays some relics of the past.

    It is an old fashioned General Store, renowned for having a massive variety of products at very fair (and often surprising) prices.

    Milton Vineyard was first farmed in 1826 initially for fine Tasmanian wool but is now producing fine cool climate wines.

    In the 19 hectare vineyard are plantings of the aromatics Pinot Gris, Reisling. and Gewurztraminer.
